Yoga is like yogurt. I know it is good for me, but I just don’t love it.
After my run today, I popped my Yoga dvd in and set up my mat. It should have been a, I don’t know (hard, relaxing, peaceful) hour. Yet 27 minutes into the video, I am in Warrior Two position, and I am reaching for my cell phone. Maybe I have an email or text or a voicemail. Please let it be urgent.
Physically it was challenging. I like Bob from the Biggest Loser. I really like the idea of doing yoga. I just don’t like actually doing yoga.
It is boring and quiet. I think I’m more of a run, swim, Zumba kind of girl. But I will continue to try it, because it is good for me.
Like yoga, I try to eat a good amount of yogurt. Chobani is nice, and I can eat it once or twice a week, but more than that and I can barely gag down a spoonful.
Maybe time will help.
I was never really a fan of fish or nuts or avocados. After being bombarded with enough “super foods” lists, I am trying to learn to like new foods. I am happy to reports that:
I enjoy nuts in my salads (but NEVER in my desserts.)
I have salmon or tuna every week.
I love fresh avocados – just not the green, mushy junk that sits on grocery store shelf and calls itself guacamole.
I just wish Reeses Peanut Butter Cups would appear on some Super Food list. I think they are super.
Here is a recipe for my favorite salad and the one that really won me over to being nutty.
NUTTY APPLE SALAD
INGREDIENTS
Mixed Salad greens
Red Grapes Cut in Half
Craisins
Raisins
Crisp Apple Slices
Walnuts
Sunflower Seeds
Feta Cheese
Vinagrette Dressing (Balsamic or Raspberry)
Optional: Sliced, grilled chicken
- Toss together in a bowl
- Serve as a side or main dish
NOTE: Keep your apples from turning brown: after you slice them, soak them in Sprite or 7-up for 30 seconds. The acidity will keep them from turning brown.
