The colors of summer….

How did the time go by so fast?

We arrived in South Carolina 11 days ago and we already have our “must squeeze into the next 48 hours” list of things to do. The vacation will not end. (Three weeks in Orlando still to come.) The grandparent time will not end. (They are brave enough to spend another week with my crazy crew.) BUT, it is almost time to say farewell to this summer paradise.

These weeks have been a photographic dream. I have had time to play and my subjects have ranged from energetic kids to hungry alligators. (Never within the same frame- I promise.) My vacation coincides well with my first venture into the world of an online photography group. Membership in this circle of artists requires two things:  1) being a photographer and 2) being married to the military. This group is an exciting way for me to challenge my creative comfort zone. While we share, question and critique on an ongoing basis, we have a  monthly challenge to interpret  a shared subject. This month’s challenge: The colors of summer.

The colors of summer? Isn’t that ALL of them? Summer IS color. Sunshine, flowers, skies, water, grass….

With all of these unedited images queuing up on my laptop,  I turned to the thousands of images captured this week and I tried to pull out the ones that screamed SUMMER COLOR to me.

Enjoy!

Cake and Canvases

I have been playing again……

Harrison has a “When I grow up” parade at school today. He wanted to be The Governor of Puerto Rico. On many levels, I was pretty sure he couldn’t pull it off. Since the kid is adamant that he will own his own bakery someday I encouraged him to go with his real dream. “Can I carry a cake in the parade?” Now when have you ever known me to turn down a crafty challenge? With assistance from little hands, here we have a styrofoam and tissue paper confection.
