BEACAUSE I CAN.
I am NOT coordinated. I was never good at sports that involved equipment (balls, bats, sticks, racquets…) or throwing, or catching, or skills of any sort. In High School I finally found my way to the track. Finally, a sport I wasn’t bad at - wasn’t good, but it wasn’t an embarassing experience. One foot in front of another – that I could do!
Fast forward a few decades and I have 4 small children, post pregnancy weight and a desperate need for “me” time. I rediscovered running one mile at a time.
With a lifelong goal of running a marathon, I followed training advice from running guru Jeff Galloway. I started in April 2005 and ran my first marathon in London, April 2006. Instead of checking that goal off my “Life List” and moving on, I was hooked, and quickly sought out my next marathon (and my next, and my next….) I call myself a Marathon Maniac (not making that up – it’s a real title) and have completed 19 marathons, 15 half marathons and a multitude of other races in the last 5 years.
I couldn’t keep this obsession to myself. Distraught by the obesity problem with children in our country, I spent free time devoted to training with local kids and inspiring our community to get moving. There will be many posts in the future about the “Inspiration Run” as we approach our 5th anniversary – for now, here’s a video about one of my proudest accomplishments.
Check in regularly for race reviews, quotes and stories from my life on the run.
