COPING WITH CHRONIC ILLNESS
While this is certainly my least favorite subject, it is one that affects me daily. Four years ago we discovered that the symptoms that had been tormenting me for months were a result of Lupus – a chronic, incurable, autoimmune disease. In simplistic terms my immune system goes into overdrive and not only attacks illness and infection, but other body parts as well. Just as I got a handle on the pertinent medical terminology, testing, medications and lifestyle changes, I learned the meaning of a common phrase in the autoimmune world: “when you find one autoimmune disease, look for another.”
Further testing over the last few years has also uncovered Celiac Disease, and Sjogren’s Syndrome. To avoid lengthy lists of symptoms and medical explanations, I have listed links to further information and helpful websites below.
These illnesses have been the most frustrating, overwhelming and limiting experiences of my life. Some posts in this blog will deal with the daily trials. Others will offer hope, as with trial comes discovery. When one’s health is constrained, we make the most of the “good days.” I feel compelled to show my children success, record my love for them, and create lasting memories. Perhaps it takes being caught in one of life’s riptides to realize our anchors. We are shown clearly who and what we should hold on to forever.

A wise friend once reminded me of an all important verse that is now one of my very favorites:
But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
Hoping you are soaring more days than not. I love the website; it is perfect. Miss my running buddy.

Thank you my friend – miss you too. Will we be able to fit in a lunch or dinner when I am in AR? How have you been feeling?

Aside from heart meds and monitoring, I am WELL! Wow, How great it is to write that. It has seemingly been a long journey–one filled with much needed lessons on patience, contentedness, and simplicity. I am starting a new book, The Simple Life, by Thom & Art Rainer, and am excited about finishing it sitting by the pool with my 15 extra “wellness” pounds. It is ridiculous, but I am wearing them as a badge of honor! Stripes earned on a path back to being “well” mentally & physically. Besides it has given our two Disney marathon partners something to laugh at as we run at 8am, as I have not bought new running clothes–just squeezing(quite literally) into my old ones!
